After running as
low as ninth, Dave Byrd and the Performance Electric Team found their way to victory
lane for the first time in 2007, in round two of the Stockcar Racing League Wild West
Shootout at Madera Speedway Saturday night.
Byrd took the lead on lap 47 and held onto the lead to the
checkered flag.
“We got some
breaks and we took advantage of them,” Byrd said. “It felt great!”
Byrd, a 15-time
driving champion and the 2006 Altamont Motorsports Park Track Champion, is now
just two points out of the points lead in the SRL series.
This Saturday
night, Byrd and the Performance Electric Team will run in the Eldorado Westcar Late Model
Series 100 lap event at
Altamont
Motorsports
Park in Tracy, CA.
The team is
competing part time in several series along with competing full time
in the SRL championship.
“This week is
vital as far as momentum goes,” Byrd said. “Things might be
different if I didn’t think we had the best equipment and team,”
Byrd said.
Byrd is focused
on trying to complete laps in the Westcar machine.
“I feel like
we’re building momentum,” Byrd said. “Every time there is a 100
lapper we can be there at the end.”
A driving championship is
the goal in the Stockcar Racing League.
”There’s enough races left,” Byrd said. “It’s only been a couple races
and we are right there in the points.”
