Strandwold Parks #1 Car!
2007
SRL Southwest Tour Championship Car Owner Bob Strandwold pulls the
plug on the ‘08 season and the plan to defend last years title,
citing a 64 point deficit to this years championship leader with
only four races left on the 2008 Flashco SRL Southwest Tour season.
Driver Dave Byrd and the Strandwold Racing Team started the season
off with a seventh place finish at Roseville’s “All American
Speedway” and a tenth place finish at the “Speedway at Irwindale”,
setting them into seventh place in the standings. The third race of
the season looked to be a top five finish until a broken throttle
linkage ended the night with a 16th place finish. The
team held onto seventh place in the point standings, but slipped
behind in the point deficit.
“With only seven race’s total on the schedule (for the ’08 season in
the SRL) and with only four races to go, it just seems too much to
overcome”, explained Bob Strandwold. “Business has been down lately
and with the limited purses and the long tows coming up, I’m just
not into spending that kind of money to try and come from behind,”
continued Strandwold. “I’m going to save my stuff and regroup for
next year.”
“I
will always be grateful to Bob Strandwold for the opportunity he’s
given me to compete and win in his cars.” extoled Dave. “Racing can
be tough in more than one way and I sympathize with Bob. Making
these kind of decisions is really the harder part for most racers.”
Dave
Byrd will continue to compete in series outside of the SRL. Dave’s
next race will be Friday July 4th at Madera Speedway in
Kenny Whelen’s Western Late Model.
